How to Play Three Card Poker

Bettors play two games at once during Three Card Poker, which blends Pair Plus with Three Card Ante/Play. Played with a regular 52-card deck, the dealer uses an automatic shuffling machine which distributes cards to the dealer in hands of three.

Playing Three Card Poker – the Ante/Play Strategy

Players ante up any amount on the table while adhering to the printed table limits. Each player and the dealer get three face down cards. Players fold after looking at their cards, or they continue play by making a bet equal to or greater than their original ante in the “play” location on the layout table. The dealer turns his cards over; if he does not have a hand better than a Queen high, he cannot play and he must pay the players even money on their bets. Players who have a straight or better earn an additional ante bonus. Players who beat the dealer’s hand win both bets and the ante bonus, if there is one.

The Pair Plus Strategy

Players must decide whether or not to play in Pair Plus, so winning is a matter of luck. Nevertheless, the dealer has a very low advantage and that is why many poker players find Pair Plus attractive. The dealer’s 2.5 percent advantage means that players will not earn huge payouts, but they are generous, and consistent. We estimate that one quarter of every player’s total Pair Plus games earns a payout.

Ranking Three Card Poker Hands

Three Card Poker hands rank differently because of the limited number of cards. As follows:

  • Straight Flush
  • Three of a Kind
  • Straight
  • Flush
  • High Card wins

Additional bets must always equal the original ante. Winning bets pay 1 to 1.
